NSHS Releases New Diagnostic Method for Tomato Mottle Mosaic Virus (ToMMV)
The National Seed Health System (NSHS) is pleased to announce the release of a new validated seed health testing method for the detection of Tomato Mottle Mosaic Virus (ToMMV) in tomato and pepper seeds. Listed as NSHS protocol So 8.1, this method provides a reliable and standardized approach for identifying ToMMV using real-time RT-PCR technology.
ToMMV is an emerging tobamovirus of concern for seed producers and regulatory agencies due to its potential impact on crop health and international seed trade. The new method enhances the ability of seed testing laboratories to detect ToMMV with high sensitivity and specificity, supporting efforts to maintain seed quality and phytosanitary compliance.
The full protocol is now available on the NSHS website under So 8.1 ToMMV – tomato-pepper.
