Changes to Method Mz 10.1 for Stewart’s wilt on Corn Implemented
Method Mz 10.1 for Pantoea stewartii ssp. stewartii version 2.0 is now available.
The new version includes a SYBR PCR assay as a follow-up to the ELISA test (Lamka et al. 1991) to confirm ELISA-positive or suspect-positive results. The ELISA assay was found to be prone to occasional, but infrequent, false positive results because it cannot distinguish P. s. subsp. stewartii from the closely related subspecies Pantoea stewartii subsp. indologenes (Block 2011, Pal et al, 2019) that does not cause disease.
